Radiation Therapy Services
Routine Medical Physics Coverage
The rapidly changing radiation oncology environment requires competent, qualified medical physics staffing. OMPC provides excellent coverage tailored to the needs of the facility. Our goal is to exceed your expectations!
OMPC takes pride in providing the best possible medical physics staff that is always available. That’s right, although “on call” coverage is avoided as much as possible in the professional environment; our staff is always available to assist the clinical needs of your facility. We believe strongly that the medical physicist is an integral part of the treatment team and should be on site during clinical hours as much as possible. Our routine service includes everything that is required from a quality assurance standpoint in order to meet the standards prescribed by the American College of Radiology. Our physicists are also well trained in all aspects of dosimetry, providing valuable input to staff dosimetrists as well as helping with plans if necessary!
Service contracts are tailored to each individual client based on oncology services provided (e.g., LDR, HDR, Stereotactic, etc.) as well as average number of patients treated and number of linear accelerators and simulators on site. A qualified physicist is ALWAYS assigned to a client as the primary coverage person.
Services also include the required diagnostic physics testing following ACR guidelines for facilities with imaging equipment available.
Prostate Brachytherapy Services
OMPC possesses the first Ohio Radioactive Materials License for mobile prostate brachytherapy. We provide the equipment, planning tools and experience to initiate prostate brachytherapy services at your facility immediately.
Using the CMS Interplant ultrasound, planning, and digital stepper system, OMPC provides a true “turn key” approach to prostate brachytherapy services. OMPC is licensed by the state of Ohio to order, receive, and transfer radioactive material for this service. This means no lengthy license application process; no purchasing of equipment; no hiring of additional staff for your facility to begin prostate brachytherapy services! OMPC currently provides services at surgery centers and rural hospitals – the ultimate in convenience and ease for the patient.
Annual Linear Accelerator QA
In today’s busy, cost conscious oncology practice, performing the annual linear accelerator QA can be burdensome for the on-site physicist as well as costly to maintain the expensive equipment needed to perform this important quality assurance.
OMPC has the right equipment in order to perform all testing required by the AAPM and ACR for annual evaluation. Our equipment is designed to be portable – alleviating the need for your facility to purchase expensive equipment that is just used once a year! The following tests are performed during an annual evaluation:
AAPM TG-51 calibration
Includes 3rd party TLD verification required by ODH
Photon output constancy for each beam energy
Electron output constancy for each beam energy
Percent depth dose constancy for each photon and electron energy
Off-axis factor constancy for all photon and electron energies
PDD’s and Profiles compared to TPS data as well as previous machine data
All wedges tested
Transmission factor for all treatment accessories
MLC, Wedge, Block, Tray
Monitor chamber linearity
Output constancy versus gantry angle
Off-axis factor constancy versus gantry angle
Safety interlock functionality
Collimator, gantry and table rotation isocenter verification
Table tests
Table top sag
3 dimensional table motion accuracy
Routine Linear Accelerator Quality Assurance Services
Specializing in commissioning of Varian linear accelerators and Eclipse treatment planning systems as well as RapidArc® treatment delivery, OMPC can free up the on-site physicists time and collect data and commission the systems fast to get you started with your new machine as quickly as possible.
Using the portable PTW scanning water tank system, staff of OMPC has performed many linear accelerator acceptance and commissioning projects. In just 2 weeks, your new linear accelerator and treatment planning system can be commissioned for use for conventional AND IMRT treatments. RapidArc® commissioning is performed in 2 days so that you can utilize this phenomenal new treatment modality as quickly as possible.
Radiation Therapy Imaging Quality Assuranc
CT simulation has become an integral part of the treatment planning process. Ensuring that all systems involved in the simulation, planning, and then treatment process are accurately functioning is imperative.
Obtaining the equipment necessary for this process can be expensive and time consuming for the on-site physicist. OMPC can do this for you!
OMPC can enhance your existing QA program by offering a complete end to end analysis of your simulation, planning and treatment process using the Lucy® 3D QA phantom. Using this single phantom, the following items can be evaluated:
CT Simulation laser accuracy
Spatial resolution
Image registration accuracy
Volume calculation accuracy
Tissue heterogeneity correction constancy (using CIRS phantom)
Dose calculation accuracy
In addition, CTDI and other diagnostic testing can be performed.
Routine Medical Dosimetry Coverage
In today’s world of radiation oncology the diversity of treatment planning techniques requires knowledgeable and highly skilled medical dosimetry staff.
OMPC takes pride in offering first-rate dosimetry coverage tailored to the needs of your facility. Our medical dosimetrists are Medical Dosimetry Certification Board certified and American Association of Medical Dosimetry members that are experienced in multiple treatment planning systems. Our professional team takes pride in providing the highest standards of care and staying on the forefront of treatment planning techniques. OMPC recognizes the importance of maintaining a stable team throughout a radiation oncology department and regards the dosimetrist as an integral part. A qualified dosimetrist is always available to support your facility. Service contracts are tailored to each individual client and are based on treatment techniques (3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT), department treatment modalities (EBRT, HDR, LDR), and patient volumes. Our dosimetrists are on site during clinical hours and also available remotely if needed.
Radiation Safety
State regulations require that area surveys be conducted for all radiation machines. OMPC has the best equipment and the experience to perform these tests and provide reporting that provides commendations from state inspectors.
Whether you are a chiropractor, radiation therapy facility or hospital, surveys are required. OMPC possesses appropriately calibrated equipment to measure radiation safety area surveys for all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment – including neutron detection! Our reports have been recognized by regulators as outstanding – ensuring your compliance with state regulations.
Facility Shielding Design and Consultation
OMPC has specialized in the design and consultation for the construction of many new cancer centers, imaging facilities and physician offices. Our team is with you well before the shovel hits the dirt through the opening of your exciting new venture.
OMPC offers many “a la carte” services for the design and construction of your new facility. OMPC will be there with you at every step of the way – even assisting you in turning the project over to full-time staff when complete. The experience gained by OMPC over the last 10 years in this area helps you not make costly mistakes during the extremely complicated and busy time of designing and building your facility. Let the staff at OMPC assist you in any or all of the following services:
Equipment selection
Purchasing expensive treatment or imaging equipment is a daunting task – physics involvement in this process is critical in order to make the most effective, cost conscious decision.
Design
Working with your architect and planning staff, OMPC offers valuable insight into the clinical environment. Our vast experience provides for lots of “do’s” and “don’ts” when it comes to design and workflow.
Shielding Calculations
Required by regulatory agencies, appropriate shielding for your equipment including linear accelerator, diagnostic, and PET imaging is extremely important. Following the newest NCRP recommendations, OMPC works WITH your design team to shield appropriately the simplest to the most interesting design applications. We feel there is ALWAYS a solution to incorporating good design with appropriate shielding in an economical way.
Project Management
Many years of experience working with equipment vendors and contractors give OMPC staff the expertise in ensuring that the design and equipment installation occurs according to plan.
Regulatory Consultation
The regulations governing the use of ionizing radiation can be daunting. OMPC can ease your mind by providing you the best guidance in ensuring compliance. Radiation safety manuals are provided that have been commended by the Ohio Department of Health. All forms and applications are coordinated so that you don’t miss ANY inspection that would delay your facility from operating.
